Adrian Doherty - A Tribute

I was coach with Moorfield boys football club in Derry in 1987, where Adrian was playing for the under 14 team.

I recommended him to the N.Ireland scout for Man Utd and he went over for a trial.  After 15 minutes of the trail match Alex Ferguson telephoned his Dad to ask if Adrian would sign for the club.

He went over to the club at 16 and played in the youth and reserve team with Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Gary Neville. He was ahead of Giggs to make his first team debut, but was injured during a training match, and never played at the top level again.

Adrian was the best young player that i have ever seen in Ireland in over 30 years of coaching and scouting.

Adrian went to work in Holland in May 2000. He had a accident on his way to work,  was in a coma for a month, and he died the day before his 27th birthday.

Gary Neville said he was the best player he ever played with.

Adrian was also very gifted in music, was a writer, and poet.
